Well make sure you both really want the sex first. Duh, everyone wants it physically, that's why its so fun, but do you both want this emotionally? Are you both in a place where you want to grow closer through sex, or are you just feeling that its about time?
Its good that you have waited about a year and half, that shows that you two have really worked to become closer before taking this step. If you truly think you're ready, say something like "I want this with you."
That shows him that you're completely okay with it and that you really want it with HIM and not just want it in general. Good luck.
