I really like him, but he confuses me! I don't understand what he wants

ok, i am really stuck! im 20, i have just split up with my boyfriend two weeks ago after a year and a half, i really like somebody, but he really confuses me, we slept together and go out alot but then after some time he will say to me why do you like me? and im no good for you! he goes to church and is depressed at the moment because he has told me he has lost god! i just want to know if he really likes me, he tells me he really does but he don't know what to do as he is looking for a wife! please help
