My one daughter, when she was 7, had a pet dwarf hamster. She did research at her school library and settled on it. So when I asked her, I was suprised she did research and she wanted a white one, so she could call it Stewart Little.

That one died because hubby put it in the cold kitchen one night. Poor thing.

She got another one, shortly after burying it in the cold, ice ground...it was winter in Alberta Canada, minus 40 C. I finally got the hole deep enough.

We were at the pet store and wanted a brown dwarf hamster. She wanted to name it Willy. Well my humour kicked in.

I said I don't know if that's a good idea. You'll go to school and brag about your Willy. You'll say who wants to pet my brown furry Willy. My Willy is so soft. Willy may be small but he makes me happy...

My other daughter and husband were laughing and telling me to stop.

My youngest called me a freak, went to the Pet Sales person and asked for the brown one.

When asked what his name would be, she said BILLY.

To this day, she claims I tramatized her.

The funniest thing that happened was with marmite I had taken her to the vet and my mate was at the vet waiting for her cat, Well we both went up to the counter and asked for Marmite so n so (LAST NAME) And her cat was called pickles, man I just fell about crying...It was to funny for me..obviously the vet was used to it but it just floored moi :)

Right on target. He became a mean tempered tomcat and was the terror of the neighborhood.was so wild that he went and taunted my neighbor's Doberman and met his end.May his cat soul rest in peace. In India its believed that cats are Sadhus reincarnated.Try to tell that to my mom who put up a fight every time I brought a stray in.:-)

I had a teacher in Grade 1 who brought in a box of kittens and let us take one home if we liked! Isn't that a rotten thing for a teacher to do? Clancy only lasted until my Mom had had enough (and he got fleas). X^P

We were never very creative with pet names.

I used to have rabbits. One was a standard rabbit called Hoppy, and the other was a lop-eared rabbit called... wait for it... Floppy! Original, huh?

The best name I remember was when we got our first dog, and I wanted to call him Runny. (Because he would run a lot... I was six!)
