Foolproof Turkey

, posted over a year ago

I thought this sounded good! Here is a turkey recipe that also includes the use of popcorn as a stuffing ingredient — imagine that. When I found this recipe, I thought it was perfect for people like me who just are not sure how to tell when the turkey is thoroughly cooked but not dried out. Give this a try:

8 - 15 lb. turkey

1 cup melted butter

1 cup stuffing (Pepperidge Farm is Good.)

1 cup unpopped popcorn (ORVILLE REDENBACHER’S LOW FAT IS BEST)

Salt/pepper, to taste

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Brush turkey well with melted butter ,salt, and pepper.

Fill cavity with stuffing and popcorn.

Place in baking pan making sure the neck end is toward the front of the oven, not the back.

After about 4 hours listen for the popping sounds.

When the turkey’s arse blows the oven door open and the bird flies across the room - it’s done.

Laughing is good for the tummy muscles!! Also I've heard it gets extra oxygen into your bloodstream and that can only help us, right? My brain needs all the O2 it can get!!!

Remind me to bring takeout to Benny Phil's house too. That is if he's in charge of the menu. But he can be the bartender.

Who was bringing the spit roast?

Tisha - Try this one:

http://pachakam.com/recipe.asp?id=1623

Our pal Bugs pointed me in the right direction and I got the chef to knock it up (which I am well aware has a somewhat different meaning to our American cousins) and it's been tried and tested three times in as many weeks in this household. I can tell you it's fabulous. We 'cheated' and threw in some extra prawns and cashew nuts - because I like them.

You might find that your spice rack swells to enormous proportions in coming weeks - I had to buy another one to accommodate all the extra spices purchased, but I tell you, this Indian grub has a lot to be said for it. Far better than from the local takeaway, that's for sure.

Preparation is key - make sure you measure out all the various bits and bobs into ramekins and have it all ready to throw into the mix as required, just like they do in cooking programmes on the telly.

Thanks Bugs!!

Method:

Thanks for yet ANOTHER recipe Bugs! It's been printed off, handed to the chef and now I eagerly await the results. Apparently all the ingredients are to hand. Thank the Lord for that - I don't need to buy her another spice rack - not yet anyway!

I tell you, guys and gals - this lady should open her own restaurant instead of messing around with computer software!

Yep add me I taste ok a little at a time!!!!!!

I'm a simple girl (NO COMMENTS THERE PLEASE!)

RICE AND CHICKEN..Can be serned hot or cold!

Cook a whole chicken (doesn't matter what size whatever floats ya boat)

ONIONS

PEPPERS (All colours)

peas (defiantly not tinned)

SEASONING HERBS..

thyme (sprinkle as desired)

parsley

oregano,

basil.

rosemary

Little salt and lots of me!!!!!!!

You will need a deep pan (non stick) pop in the oil of your choice, fry the onions until golden brown but still a little crunch to them, Add peppers sliced small..Don't add any oil to the chicken cook upside down covered in tin foil and covered in mustard and pepper and a nob or two of butter BIG NOBS! When chicken is finished pour the juices into the pan with the other crap, Add your herbs and cut chicken into nice bite size pieces and add. Leave this to marinate for awhile 30mins should be fine..Cook your rice until there is still a bite to it at the same time heat your peas through until they are hot but not mushy..Chuck it all together and serve with a lovely tomato salad or a salad of you choice.....OH YUM I'M REALLY BLOODY HUNGRY NOW! ARGGG GOTTA GET TO WORK :)

Bugs, I made your curry last night. Can I just say, "YUM!" And my hubby liked it too. He went back for seconds, after asking a bit anxiously, "Is there any more?" I froze the leftover sauce for another quick meal for one sometime in the future.

Fade, your recipe is next, that sounds great. I loooooove pierogies. I like to saute some onions, and plop the cooked pierogies into those and some brown butter. Does the cottage cheese have to be whole milk, or can I use the 1% kind?

And Pepper, yours is up after the pierogies. Yummmyyyyyyy!!!!!

Hey Fade,

How are you doing? Please take it easy.Take good care of yourself and our little one.

can I use wheat flour for the pyrogies dough?

This following recipe is especially for pregnant women who are not supposed to have spicy curry.;-)

Though Uncy Phil is not pregnant, he and Aunt are such sweet hearts. So this recipe is for my most favorite Uncle and Aunt in the world as well.:-)

Vegetable Sodhi:

----------------

Ingredients:

-----------

1.carrot-4 cut into cubes

2.beans-4 cut into cubes

3.coconut milk-thick and thin.

4.cumin seeds-1 tsp

5.fenugreek seeds-1 tsp

6.pink onion-1(chopped into small pieces)

7.green chillies-2

8.Turmeric powder-a pinch

9.salt-to taste

Method:

-------

To prepare thick and thin coconut milk:

---------------------------------------

The best way to prepare thick and thin coconut milk is to use the juicer part of the food processor. How do I explain? There is a jar which filters the carrot, pineapple etc from the juice.

Take that jar.

1.Put the grated coconut in the funnel where you usually put your fruits.

2.Add very little water.(1/2 cup)

3.The extracted coconut juice is the thick coconut milk.

4.Keep it in a separate bowl.

5.With the same coconut gratings in the funnel, add more water(2 cups)

6.This is the thin coconut milk.

To prepare the sodhi:

---------------------

1.Take a pressure cooker.Add 4 cups water.

2.Add the cumin seeds,fenugreek seeds,onion,green chillies,carrot, beans,thin coconut milk,turmeric,salt.

3.Keep it on medium flame for 3 whistles.

4.switch it off.

5.Wait till the steam escapes from the pressure cooker

6.When the mixture is medium hot,add the thick coconut milk.Allow it to stand for 15-20 min.If you add it when it is red hot,the coconut milk will curdle.

Serve with rice. The sodhi should immerse the rice in a bowl. That's the best way to eat it.
