When I stopped taking them, I had a period every 28 days for a few months, then they stopped completely for 6 months...then all of the sudden they started up again and have been relatively normal ever since.

You will need to visit the gGP in any case. There are to many possibilities for period to stop.
cystic ovaries is an option. Doctor may prescribe you some tablets to normalise period. Not necessarily serious but you needs to be checked out.

Did you just one day suddenly stop taking your BC? If that's the case then you're just like me. See, I haven't had one in about 6 months (happy, save the bit of weight I gained on the scales...). I don't feel you should panic, but you should go get checked out. It's probably just the same thing, your body just kinda got confused because you suddenly took away it's source of regulation, and in time it might go back to normal... but then again it might not.
You can still have kids though, I had a friend who had two children and hasn't had a period in 10 years because of suddenly stopping birth control. :o

It can take up to a year for normality to return though it is unusual to be so long. My daughter took 7 months but remember you can still get pregnant as you could have just ovulated and not be aware of it.

sometimes it can take up to two years for everything to come back to normal after being on birth control pill. my advice to you is to go see youre doctor or FPC. and have a talk to them about this, it could be that you havent gotten it out of youre system just yet.. xx
