Is he freaking out about becoming a dad?

A female United Kingdom age 26-29, *yDaysOnceRevolvedAroundYou writes:

Hi there. I am 26 and my partner is 25. We have been together for the last five years. We got engaged two years ago, our wedding was postponed due to covid from April this year to April next. We always talked about trying for children once we got married. However, once it was postponed, my partner said that he would like to now try for a baby before the wedding. I said that I was happy to wait for the wedding as it was something we both wanted, but we decided together after his suggestion, like why not? In this day and age. So fast forward, I am now 34 weeks pregnant. I may just be being hormonal and taking things to heart, but tonight he has gone out for his last night out before the baby comes, which I’m not bothered about and have encouraged him to do if he feels he needs to get it out of his system now. Before he left tonight, he said he felt like he was having a quarter life crisis and that he feels he may lose his friends once he becomes a dad. I tried to reassure him that although life will change, he can keep his friendships and that his good friends will stick around (he’s the first in the friendship group to become a dad). Since he’s been gone tonight, I am really worried about this quarter life crisis and what it might mean… is he freaking out about becoming a dad? Because he’s been so up for it until now.. I don’t really know what to think or how to manage this the best I can. Any words of wisdom would be helpful.

Alwin agony auntI think you should be worried about yourself, your life will change WAY more than his. Good luck I wish you a safe delivery.

"he feels he may lose his friends once he becomes a dad." I think that's just about it and it's normal. Ask him how he feels if in doubt don't try to read too much into that. Everybody is afraid of change, but that's just how life is. Everything is transient.
