I think once you've been going out for a little while and he can see your with her because you like her, and respect her, and not with her for sex (which is what he is probably worried about!) I think things will become natural.
Actually I think if you are a good guy, his initial reluctance will soon go.
I think you should go for it and post back here in a few weeks to let us know how you're getting on.
Good luck!

You should sit your friend down and just say that you really like her and that you would like to ask her out, ask him would be comfortable with that! If he says No then its completely your perogative and if you decide its worth arguing with him over it then go for it anyway or otherwise respect your friends decision and move on! If he says Yes then go for it, you have the blessing!!!
What I am trying to say is you will never know until you try...just tell him that there is this girl that you really like then say the only thing is.........best of luck...I don't see why he should have a problem unless she's 10 years younger than you or you have a bad rep for playing girls! Keep me posted! x
