A female United States age 36-40, anonymous writes:

Hello and thank you !

A man contacted me on Instagram. We've been chatting a couple of months. Seems nice and sweet but I've been very cautious.

We're from different countries, different cultures and an age gap.

He says he works but whenever I come online hes online. Apparently doesn't have much friends but usually online. His instagram disappeared after we starting chatting on WhatsApp. He created another and that also disappeared. The one he created didnt really have friends on it.

Anyways, he asked me to come to Nigeria and marry him. I was shocked! I said we should meet somewhere different if it comes to that. Which it won't cause I'm leery. Then he tells me his landlord is asking for rent and can I help. He said it's fine if I can't of course I wont.

I should mention his first Instagram he had pics of some women calling her my baby this and that when I asked him he said it's his cousin. Lies lol.

I believe he is a scammer.

What's your opinion?

Hello and thanks.

I'm the OP. Thanks to many who replied nicely and gave some good tips. Some of you were harsh asking why I need to ask strangers for advice? Well, as far as I'm aware it's an advice column.

A female reader, anonymous, writes (19 December 2020):

Well I may as well add that this is a classic scam!

It's no laughing matter.

The sad part is that this is how this guy supplements his income.

Do you need to go any further.

Next step it will be money for an operation.

Would you spend your life scamming victims out of money?

If it's not your style then make sure to cut all contact and laugh at his pathetic attempts to get into your bank account.

Does emotional blackmail hold any resonance for you.

I would not only drop him but I would offer his contact details to the police as a warning to any other potential victims.

Also there are support groups for women who have been conned into marrying a scammer in a rushed and elaborate ceremony.

Then when the scammer has worked his way into your knickers via marriage, and your bank account via marriage, then they build a house with your money and boot you out of it because they have a new scam victim to fleece.

Meanwhile the first victim returns to their own country penniless without a home (If they gave up or sold their house) and they face a very difficult old age.

The scammers are motivated by a contempt for women's gullibility and an earnst desire to get rich quick at the victims expense.

Your crime would be one of gullibility so most people feel only pity for the victim who does not get reimbursed by any authority as it is a loophole crime.

This question amuses me. You have lots of clear proof he is scammer - yes proof - yet you still ask strangers for their opinion? What is wrong with you? Why would you want a new man in your life who needs to ask strangers for money for rent, who cannot pay his way in life? Can you not see that if he is telling the truth and needs to borrow money from you he is a waste of space? Either he is a loser who needs to borrow money from a person he has never met or a scammer. Either way he is a waste of space.

Delete him and move on.

Honeypie agony auntYeah, he is probably a scammer.

1. Nigeria. (Scammer central)

2. Wants you to come to GIS country to marry him? After talking a couple of months?

3. Keep deleting his social media? (suspect)

4. Ask for help with his rent though he claims to have a job... (seriously?)

If I were you... I would block him ASAP.

A reader, anonymous, writes (17 December 2020):

Do you really need to ask? He's online and offline; because he has to go to an internet café, borrow a laptop, or go to some public place to use a computer. You can't be so naive as not to see scammer written all over this guy!

Africa, Eastern Europe, and South America are hotbeds for internet-scammers who get women (and gay men) to send them money, marry them, or get them visas or documents for citizenship. The sad part is how easy it is for them to do it!

Consider every guy you meet online, especially foreigners, to be potential scammers. These guys think European and American women are spoiled and stupid. They scam lonely females for hundreds and thousands of dollars; because they fall for sappy sweettalk and flattery.

I mean seriously?!!
