I am no social butterfly by any means, but I have a few select friends that I am or was very close with. I tend to go quality over quantity.
But overall, I agree with Gina. Joining various groups can help your skills along.

reader, anonymous, writes (25 May 2009): I am a middle child. I have two sisters, one older and one a lot younger.
I do feel quite alone a lot of the time, but like Ginalolabridga said, I think this is more to do with my personality rather than anything else. I'm a quiet person, and quite timid around people.
I suppose for me, being the middle child has sometimes made me feel like I'm the invisible one though. My little sister gets loads of attention and fuss because she is the "baby", and my older sister seems to have more in common with my mom, because she has kids too, so they have things to talk about.
Do you feel separate from your family? Is that what is troubling you? If so, then maybe you could try and spend more time with them, or get involved in the things they do. Or invite them over for a chat or something. It's hard to advise without knowing the situation. I hope this has helped somehow though. x
