So finally his 16 bday is coming up (we're just friends) and I was just wondering if getting him a teddy bear would be too embarrassing for him?  Depends, do you plan on giving it to him in front of friends or when he's by himself? Don't get him an expensive teddy though, as he is less than likely going to actually use it. Give him something cute and charming, but not that expensive. And then give him a "real" gift as well. If you do it like that you have your back covered.

Very sweet, but he doesn't' want a teddy. He wants you. If you get him a teddy, it might make him think that he stands a chance with you. If he doesn't stand a chance because you're not interested, then don't give him a bear. If you do like him, tell him you like him.

He's hoping that you will say "Well if you are lonely, why don't I be your girlfriend????"
A teddy bear will just give him hope that he has a chance.
Next time he starts moaning about being lonely tell him to man up and ask out a girl he likes, and if she says no then move on and find another girl instead.
Give him a kick up the arse.
