Losing your baby teeth is not really related to how well you take care of them. For the baby teeth to fall out new teeth must have formed and started the eruption process. These permanent teeth literally push the baby teeth out from below. At your age, you should be getting in your second molars, followed by the third molars(wisdom teeth). If you have baby teeth remaining at the premolar, or even canine and incisor level you may have an issue. There is a condition that is not extremely uncommon called hypodontia. This is when one or more of your 32 permanent teeth do not develop, which could be the reason that your baby teeth remain. I would visit a dentist, who can take an X-ray and tell you if your teeth have developed normally. Also, if you have permanent teeth that have become impacted they can help you out. All in all, hypodontia is not a huge deal. My boyfriend had no lateral upper incisors, and I did not notice until he told me. Yeah, you might have to get braces to bring your teeth together, but many teenage ladies experience the same affliction and can relate. Here is a link to a handy dental chart that you can check out to learn more about the development process.http://www.uic.edu/classes/orla/orla312/schour_and_massler_dental_diagrams.htm
Good luck to you!

Hi
Rest assured you are not on your own. My grandson who has just turn 14 is in a very similiar position as you were. He eat lost of sweets, sugary foods and failed to brush his teeth properly. After months of warning him of the implications of this he started to fuss about tooth ache until I decided to take him to a dentist. He needed a big filling and a root canal job done on another two as well as a brace which he disliked at first until he discovered how fashionable and common they were today.
I believe that in this climate we are living in people are much more concern about appearance than the actual personality of the person. This is a 'pity' as I am sure that there are many individuals with tooth problems who have a wonderful personality. However, the long term downside to bad tooth conditions are likely to contribute to ill health, bad breath and premature loss of them. Therefore, I am glad that you are now taking good care of them and with the continuous used of regular check ups at the dentist it will certainly not hinder your relationships in future.
By the way braces are the latest trend in todays fashion world. They come in different colours and designs to suit the individuals' personality. So, smile there is likely to be a brighter future ahead for you with the steps you have already taken
Good luck
