I just started back taking my birth control pills this past sunday night. Me and my boyfriend had sex but the condom broke even and he didn't ejaculate in me. I had already taken one of my birth control pills a few hours before we had sex. The next day Monday I took two birth control pills a few hours apart which made me very sick but i didn't throw them back up. The type of birth control pills I take are the Ortho Tri-Cyclen pills. Will they prevent me from becoming pregnant even though I started taking them the same night the condom broke? Thanks

It says 8 days in the instruction papers that comes with the little box the birth control pills are in. Maybe for some pills it's a whole month but the types I've been on have all been 8 days.

Basically: read the papers that come with the pill! They say all you need to know about how long you have to be on the pill before you are protected as well as other information about the type of pill you are on.

meg2989 agony auntSo let me make sure I'm gathering the right information you took a bc pill and then had sex, but you had just started taking the birthcontrol that night, an fearing that you could become pregnant you also took two pills that next day?? If that is the correct information, I 'll give you an answer now, if it is not then disreguard this and post again, and I will hopefully be able to give you a more correct answer. If you just started to take your b/c that day, then yes you could be pregnant and no taking a b/c right after sex will not reduce the risk for pregnancy. You really need to be taking your birth control for a full month so it can get in your system for it to work. I know someone posted that you have to take it for 8 days, but I personally have always been told by my doctors to take it for a month. I'm not saying that the poster is wrong for saying 8 days but I have personally never heard that. You may be able to take the plan b pill, which I suggest you get information on from a pharmicist or doctor first. It is an over the counter drug, and will not terminate an existing pregnancy, it IS NOT the abortion pill either. You have to take it withing 24 - 48 hours, so it maybe too late but I figured I should mention it anyways.

Laura1318 agony auntThe birth control pills have to be taken everyday and if you missed one day and you have sex, there is a probability you may get pregnant. Some sperms can live inside your body from 3 to 7 days.

No contraceptive methods is 100 % safe.

Even if you are taking those birth control pills everyday ,there is a chance you can still get pregnant though the chances of getting pregnant is very slim .

Even though he did not ejaculate , there could be precum or sometimes he may not be aware that he has ejaculated some .

Precums may or may not contain sperms. It may contain sperms from the previous and recent ejaculations.

To prevent pregnancy after having sex, take the morning after pill within 48 hours .The earlier the better.

The only sure method to know if you are pregnant or not is to take a pregnancy test 7 days after your ovulation.

No, birth control pills wont prevent pregnancy if taken right after sex. They have to be taken 8 days in advance to have an effect. The pill you need is the morning after pill, and that is something quite different from a birth control pill. The morning after pill actually causes your body to have an abortion. The birth control pill work so that you can't get pregnant in the first place. But they will do no good other than potentially defecting the fetus if you already are pregnant. Plus they need 8 days to work, and sperm lives for 5 days inside of you. You do the math. Plenty of time to get pregnant on.
