when you say 'mate', are you a couple or just friends? Are you even sexually attracted to one another?

A male reader, anonymous, writes (20 July 2010):

At your (his) age, it is most likely nervousness or stress. When a guy isn't in the moment, he can lose his erection or not have one at all. Have you guys talked about it? I'd start by telling him it is OK and you are fine with it (assuming you are) because you know he's just nervous. Take the pressure off penetrative sex...maybe give him oral or a backrub once in a while. If none of that works, maybe ask him to see a doctor to rule out a physical problem. If he's not terribly shy, he could also ask the doctor for some Cialis or something to get him over the performance anxiety. Same thing happened to me, and I took Levitra a few times...now I stay hard even after cumming...not because of Levitra, but because my confidence is not an issue. Erections are 90% mental...especially when you're young.
