Why haven't I gotten my period in a week and half?

My husband and I have been trying to have a baby for about 3 months now and we have not had any luck. But this month when I was suppose to get my period it never came. Now I am about a week and half late. This morning I tried a home pregnancy test and it came out negative. Is there a chance it is wrong, I know the box says 99% accurate but, it just doesn't make any sense to me because I'm not stressed and I know that is one reason for not getting your period on time. So if anyone has any information that would be great. Thanks.

I'm in the same exact boat only I haven't gotten my period in 3 weeks so far. I've taken 2 pregnancy tests, 1 before my expected period & 1 a couple days after I had missed my period but I did some research on babycenter.com & I learned that you probably won't even get a positive test on any pregnancy test until your considered 5 weeks pregnant. Some girls longer than that though, infact my friend didn't find out until she was 9 weeks! best of luck! :)

Well.. I am in the same boat. I was supposed to get my period on the 19th of January and it is now February 3rd. So It's about 2 weeks late. I don't think I'm stressed out or anything so I dont know why it is so late. I've taken one pregnancy test but it might have been too soon. How long after you miss your period should you take a pg test?

xapathyxrebornx agony auntHi, take a test in a few weeks if your period hasn't come. Also make sure you do the test on the first time you go for a pee in the morning which is when it is most accurate =D

If the result is still negative you can keep on trying =] x

good luck on your desired result x

Mistify agony auntHi there

I'm not sure why you haven't had your period yet, so i won't elaborate on that.

The pregnancy test however, could be wrong. I don't want to get your hopes up, but if you test for pregnancy too soon, the test might not pick it up.

When i was pregnant with my daughter, 3 of the 5 pregnancy tests i did came up negative.

The only way to be 100% sure is to have bloodwork done.

Like i said, i don't want to get your hopes up. If i were you, i'd give it another week or so, to see what happens with your period. If you still have not gotten your period, re-take the test and see what happens.

I'll hold thumbs that it's positive, and if not, that you'll fall pregnant SOON.

Good luck.

Love and Light

Hi Hunny,

Home pregnancy tests can sometimes give a negative result love I dont want to get your hopes up, If you still havent had your period in a weeks time try again the pregnancy hormone Hcg is what is found by the test it can show 10 days after you concieve or the day your period is due, A better way of finding this hormone is by having a blood test love. As rcn said carry on trying and forget just have great sex, My mum adopted me and my brother only to find herself pregnant as she was half way through adopting my brother GOOD LUCK AND LOTS OF PRAYERS TO YOU BOTH WITH LOVE MANDY xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

A female reader, javajive New Zealand +, writes (17 January 2008):

javajive agony auntThere could several reasons why you haven't got your period..

If the first test came out negative, you need redo a week later, because you may not have enough hormones circulating in your blood for the test to pick up, assuming that your period hasn't started by then.

If your periods have been very regular up till now, this might just be an aberration. If trying to get pregnant is overwhelming you, the stress may also be affecting your cycle.

Three months is not very long to be trying for a baby (although it may seem like it!) If it turns out you are not pregnant, try to be patient and calm and concentrate on having a great relationship with your partner and look at getting yourself in the best physical and mental shape you can. Your body will thank you for it!

Best wishes and good luck!

A female reader, IntoxicatingLastBreath United Kingdom +, writes (17 January 2008):

IntoxicatingLastBreath agony auntPregnancy tests can be wrong, they suggest that you do two to make sure either way.

And also you can get signs of pregnancy if it's on your mind..if your wanting to be pregnant i know it may sound strange but that could be the cause..just keep on trying and gives things a lot of time, if your getting worried about not being pregnant after a lot of time see a doctor..and make your partener do the same thing to make sure everything's in working order.

Your period may just be overdue as that's natural..and it's not only stress that causes it..lack of excersize and not eating the right foods can actually prevent you from getting your period on time aswel..

If i was you i'd give it a couple of weeks more..or even until you've extended the time of when your next period will be and there's still no sign of one, then do another pregnancy test and see what that says.

If in doubt, see a doctor.

Feel free to contact me

A male reader, rcn United States +, writes (17 January 2008):

rcn agony auntIt could be wrong. My recommendation. Stop trying. Keep having sex, and lots of it, but not so much thought on the desired result. My ex-wife wanted a baby so bad, 3 years we tried, once she decided maybe to wait a bit longer was when it happened. Through that time, she thought she was preg. a few times. Turns out, if you want a baby real real bad, you can trick yourself into having pregnancy signs, and not be pregnant. I know it's strange, but you can actually try too hard. Take care, and good luck
