(having some problems with that too, when I'm on top) (sorry if it's a weird / awkward question)

 Hmmm, I'm unsure since it has long been one of my favorite positions without such an issue. However, you might consider applying more forward and/or backward movement on your part to create additional friction/feeling for him. In the old days, my girlfriends called it "grinding," and also included some circular movements. I'm not certain it will help, but it keeps me at attention.

he probably is getting "weirded" out, or the awkwardness is overwhelming... he most likely is looking for more confidence in the way you get on him, don't be afraid to be rough.
