Why do I look smaller when I'm the same size?

A female United States age 41-50, anonymous writes:

I am a petite girl with a large chest. I've always thought I was a 32DD but when I got measured the other day I was told that I'm a 30FF. Why is it that other women who are a 34FF or 36FF have really huge breasts but mine aren't as huge as theirs when I'm the exact same cupsize? I'm not complaining or anything. I'm just curious.

A female reader, k_c100 United Kingdom +, writes (28 March 2011):

k_c100 agony auntThe 30, 32, 34 etc measurement is the width of your back, not your actual cup size. So it is nothing to do with the size of your breasts, just the size of your back basically.

So, as harsh as this is, women who are say 36FF are just fatter than you hence their boobs look bigger. Whereas you are obviously very petite and thin, therefore even though your cup size is large the width of your back is small so your boobs look smaller than someone who is a lot wider than you.

When you are carrying extra weight around your back and chest this adds on inches (the 32, 34 etc measurement) so you look fuller around the chest. It does not increase the size of your breasts, it literally just makes you wider. Adding inches on to your chest and back is more noticeable than going up 1 or 2 cup sizes, because the cup size is just the fullness of the breast rather than the area it can take up. Think about it this way - if you are wider, there is more room for your breasts to spread out into and there is more area for them to take up hence they look bigger. Whereas if you have a tiny back and chest (as in your case) then there is nowhere really for your breasts to go, so they will get fuller if they increase in cup size, but they will never look really big because there is not enough room for them to expand into.

But it doesnt really matter, you are petite yet you have great breasts - you are incredibly lucky! Women who are measuring 36+ are into an unhealthy range, they will be carrying too much weight and are putting their health at risk. So just feel lucky that you are so slim yet have such great breasts, most women your size would only have a B or C at the most so never take for granted what you have!

I hope this helps and good luck!
