writes:what exactly is the age of consent in the uk? im very confussed over the topic.I've read its 16, but i always thought it was 18. so would i be right in thinking an 18 year old and a 15 y/o is illegal, but a 18 y/o and a 16 y/o is legal? obviously if both are 18+ its fine.  Just wanted to clarify that the age of consent is actually 16 for both homosexual and heterosexual couples. As a law student I know for certain that the age of consent was equalised in 2001. Furthermore, the 2003 Sexual Offences Act does not discriminate between homosexual and heterosexual couples in this way.
In Northern Ireland however, the age of consent for homosexuals is 17.

 Being a brit myself let me clear this up for you. The age of consent in britain is 16 for heterosexual couples, 18 for homosexual couples.
Just remember whatever age: Have Safe Sex! Nothing is worse then being 16 years old with the prospect of being a parent and you are not ready for it!

 It is definatly legal at the age of 16 and over in the uk to have sexual intercourse and so yes it is ilegal for and 18 year old and a 15 year old to have sex. always remember to be safe :)

 No the age of consent is 16. I think it might still be 18 for gay sex but not 100% sure about that.
