So I asked a guy out for the first time ever earlier thi week, asked him if we were still on, and he said 'probably so'. what does 'probably' mean and why?! He's the one who got my number and initiated all texts. I have not been the serial psycho text girl....I've been a little aloof...and very confused now. thanks in advance

I think Ask Oldersister is right and the most truthful realistic view of this situation.

His response was just about rude, and it seems to me that you initiated things by asking him out, didn't wait for him to call you and ask you out, and now you are following up with him to firm up the date and he gives you a probably.

In guy lingo, that means maybe if I don't get a better offer, it means you don't have a date but tentative plans, that is what probably so means, not most definately.

Personally, I have never had a boyfriend or relationship with a guy that started out like this. If he is into you, he will pursue you, period, end of story, you won't have to ask him, he'll be asking you.

Don't make excuses for his lame behavior, he isn't shy, he isn't scared, he is lazy and not very motivated or interested in dating you...

You decide what you want to do with that, I know what I would do.

I'm sorry, but I have never had a boyfriend as it were or a relationship with a man that I had to ask out first and who would not make a firm date, probably is not a confirmation. I would take this as you do NOT have plans to go out with him. Personally, I wouldn't give this guy anymore of your attention. He's not interested in you.

Probably means most likely, whereas maybe is more on the fence and displays unsurety. So he most likely will go out with you.. mostly a sure date, if you get what I mean.

msvee agony auntThere's more than one way that he could have meant it.

Probably so .. since we did agree on it and set the place and everything.

or

Probably so .. if there's no emergency that night and I can't make it.

Just shrug it off or you'll end up going crazy and seeming overly sensitive and insecure.

Maybe you're just nervous. Relax.
