What do women think of very hairy guys? Is it a turn off and a major deal breaker when a guy is very hairy on his body?

Be honest.

golddigger99 agony auntVery hairy? No, not me. Somewhat hairy? Yes. All women are different, but it's important to just be yourself. If you constantly try to conform yourself to everyone else's likings, then you will never be happy. Just be you!

A female reader, So_Very_Confused United States +, writes (4 May 2016):

So_Very_Confused agony auntIt depends on the locale of the hair...and the color.

hair on the back... NO...just NO. I would have that crap waxed off.

my husband is hairy...but his body hair is RED...

I love his furry tush....

and his arms and legs and chest are thick with his hair and I love it...

now i have to be honest if he was VERY dark and it was that thick it is almost "ape like" and that may be a turn off..

also trimming of pubic hair is appreciated.

A female reader, CindyCares Italy +, writes (4 May 2016):

CindyCares agony aunt I doubt you'll find a general consensus . Preferences vary.

If you ask me , for instance, yes, honestly it's rather a turn off ( although not a " major dealbreaker ": a man is more than just the sum of his body hair ! ). I love smooth chests , even more if they are natural, if it's the result of shaving, I love it a little less, but always better than bushy, I don't like bushy.

That's me , though. I know of may other women that do not care either way, hairy or not, and many others even who think the hairier the better. Difficult to figure out a stat.

I think that like in most things, "everything in moderation " could apply here too. Define " very hairy " ,... and very hairy where ?

So very hairy that you can't see the skin beneath ? Like a fur ?. Like for instance, on your arms, so many hairs that it looks like you are always wearing long sleeeves even when you aren't ? Uhm. Not so good. Time to call in that beautician.

The hair location has its importance, too. Chest can be ok, stomach can be ok, legs and arms can be ok . Anything less than a gorilla will do,- although MY personal idea of perfection is different, but then again, hey who's perfect ? Hair on your back, and/or a furry butt- sorry but , no. I did not take a poll, but I've got the feeling that generally that's were the line is drawn , hairwise. It may be the case of dipping into your piggybank and going for a good waxing or something....

A female reader, femmenoir Australia +, writes (4 May 2016):

femmenoir agony auntHi,

i think a man should leave what mother nature placed on his body alone.

Men who shave everything off, i personally don't find this sexy or attractive.

Body builders and professional swimmers usually shave their body hair off, for obvious reasons, but your average guy, there should be no need to at all.

Most women, don't get too turned on by body builders anyway.

Whilst there are women who don't like overly hairy men, there are women who do and a man with body hair in all the right places, is incredibly sexy and i will confess, it has always turned me on.

Differnet women like different things, but many women will tell you, a bit of male body hair, even a lot, is not unattractive at all.

Chest hair, leg hair, under arm hair and pubic hair, are all sexy.

It is manly and it's considered a real form of male attracting female in the animal kingdom.

Pre-historic and neanderthal man was covered in hair and he still managed to play to play his role in allowing the human species to survive and to evolve.

I also love a man beard, side burns, love it to the max!

Not all women do, but most women i know love it too and we find it very masculine and sexy.

It is not a turn-off for me personally. And that's what it is about: different women will have different preferences.

I like hair on men,I find it sexy and part of the natural, manly allure. I don't care for manscaping and metrosexual men. Overly-groomed men are big turn-offs for me. Seriously, why are men shaving their chests et al!! Chest hair is sexy and earthy :D

That's me...I'm 34 for reference but I've always had this preference. I also live in a big city, full of metrosexuals. Sigh

A female reader, chigirl Norway +, writes (3 May 2016):

chigirl agony auntI think it depends on what is popular in your culture, and then it depends on the particular woman.

I personally do not mind a hairy guy, and the hairier his chest is, the better. I can do without hair on the back (and can do fine with hair there too), but I do not like men who shave their legs or shave their chests etc. Keep it eu naturel please!

A female reader, anonymous, writes (3 May 2016):

Everyone is different. I don't mind a bit of hair although would rather not date a guy with a full beard, hairy back or hairy arse but my sister loves hairy guys (especially beards). So I don't think there is a one size fits all in the body hair department! Agree with other posters though that the hair must be clean! I don't know any girl that fancies dirty smelly guys. If you're self conscious about it you could always shave or wax it. There's also laser hair removal although Im not sure how safe that is so wouldn't recommend trying it until you've done some further research

Dionee' agony auntPersonally I like facial hair, arm hair, leg hair, chest hair, lower back hair, stomach hair on a guy. It's also nice if he isn't clean shaven down there but it must be clean and maintained obviously. There's just something about hair on a guy that appeals to me its like I find it so incredibly sexy. That's just me though

A female reader, YouWish United States +, writes (3 May 2016):

YouWish agony auntI personally don't mind it in the least. Back, shoulders, chest, works for me!! But here's my thing:

You have to be CLEAN. Meaning the hair can't look ratty, sweaty, greasy, or smelly. If a hairy guy showers, uses nice smelling shampoo or body wash or soap, wipes really well when doing his business, then it's all good!

Like Honeypie, I too am turned off by the unkempt "Duck Dynasty" look, because to me, it's unhygienic. Even on the show, they specifically state that they only brush their teeth before bed, no flossing, no combing, no shower, knotted unwashed hair hidden under a headband, and no deodorant. YUCK!!

I do not need a manscaper, just clean and non-smelly. However, a guy shouldn't expect a woman to shave or wax down there unless he's willing to do the same thing. There's nicely trimmed (like I do, or like what most guys do with full beards on their faces), but the pre-pubescent look on either a guy or girl is disturbing to me.

I also *love* bald-headed guys, so my tastes are eclectic. But my husband has a full head of real hair that hasn't receded one tiny inch since the day I met him, though now there are a few streaks of gray, which I like!

Hair is good! Makes a guy look very manly! But HYGIENE!!!! There are very few "Werewolf" hair guys, but that wouldn't even throw me off if he were ultra clean and smelling awesome.

A female reader, Honeypie United States + , writes (3 May 2016):

Honeypie agony auntThis is just MY personal preference. Would I tell someone I was dating to shave/manscape? No. It's HIS body, his choice. If he asked, I'd give my honest opinion.

Would I be turned off sexually by a very hairy guy? Doubtful. If his personality, his sense of humor etc. are attractive I can definitely deal with some body-hairs.

---------------

For me it depends on how hairy and where.

A little "manscaping" doesn't hurt. After all women are expected to have baby smooth legs and armpit,s and well most other places as well.

I don't mind facial hair, as long as it's clean and maintained - if you have ever seen Duck Dynasty (just google it) they men have long gross looking wild beards.. Some like, I don't.

Hair on the chest, yes it looks very nice. BUT there is a difference here as well, if you look like that bearskin rug in front of the fireplace, it's a bit much - but again personal preference.

Hair on the back and shoulders is a no-no for me. To "unkempt caveman" for me.

Hairy legs, pit, arms or even crotch? Doesn't bother me. Though again a little trimming in the crotch is nice - no one wants to go down on a "Zohan bush".... and try and find "things" in there.

I think a guy who LOOKS like he takes care of himself is attractive.

Oh and by the by, someone who waxes/shaves ALL body-hairs off? Unless you are an Olympic swimmer... it's meeh. It reminds me of a Ken doll. Unless. you are Chris Helmsworth/Evans or Alexander Skarsgaard....

A female reader, Ormskirk360 United Kingdom +, writes (3 May 2016):

Ormskirk360 agony auntMy opinion summed up in one word... LURVE!!!!!!!!!!!!

The more hair the better; everywhere it can grow; and facial hair a bonus, especially old fashioned huge sideburns, beards, etc.

It's good facial hair is making a comeback, but sad that body hair is not so accepted. *sigh*
