 Hi Anon,
What about something fun - like getting tix for both of you to go to a comedy club.
You could make little "tickets" that he could trade in for a free massage from you, you go to whatever movie he wants to go see, etc.
What about making his favorite dinner or going out to his favorite restaurant?
What about going away for a weekend together? You could plan it together and it would be more of a present for the both of you.
Video games, dvds, music - something fun to do while he's at home since he doesn't work (unless you want him to find a job. lol Then I don't think this would help the situation!)
If he's more of a mushy kind of guy, you could scrapbook some of your favorite pictures together w/ a love letter telling him why he's so important to you.

 Perhaps a Football Shirt from his favioute Team (Arseanl,Man U etc), Tickets to a game. But this depends on his love for the sport. Maybe a new accesory for wrok (Ties, Tools) Or even his favoured aftershave
