reader, anonymous, writes (14 December 2008): I remember when i started my period. I had this yellow mucus which came a year before i started. One day I had a huge stomach cramp and it went on through the day. I took tablets to help with the pain. My mum was a nurse then and she gave me pads (Like your mum) and i wore one and when i went to the toilet i had started. I didnt even know i did because at the time i was out with my friends :)

12 is still very young some girls don't start til they are 16 or even older.
If you already have breasts and pubic hair it shouldn't be too long.
