What are some good ways for a 13 year old to make money, I get paid for singing in a choir but my mum makes me by EVERYTHING myself (well not literally everything). My mums great, but when it comes to buying me stuff then... She's not so great! I have to buy my own school equipment, (like bags and stuff) and I have to buy my own clothes. But anyway back to the point , does anyone know good ways to make money? Not a lot of money, just enough to buy me clothes (not a lot) and school equipment!

I guess you are talking about buying luxuries here? As your mum should be paying for your food & clothes anyway.

Sometimes if you can't make money - you could try saving it instead - cut down on buying the odd pack of crisps at lunch time or going to the chip shop after school etc - you will notice the pounds will soon add up week by week.

Good luck.

When I was your age, I used to collect aluminum cans, crush them and than sell them to a scrap yard

I started life broke and I still am but the essence of life is not really money although commercially you will always be told that is.

Having to get your clothes basics is tough at 13 years but it happens so here are some hints. Charity shops are good for hunting round and if you are under age for proper work or volunteering you could ask your mum to go to foodbanks to help with the family food budget.

Mum should be buying you basic clothes but if she just won’t do it you might have to speak to your teacher and say "look miss, money is so tight at home that my feet hurt cos my shoes are too small. Well it may create a drama I guess and mutterings of social services but mum might be missing out on much needed help financially.

Many countries are in recession right now and your family is not alone in this cycle of poverty. I once got so hungry that I wanted to eat a mouse but he was too quick, he just did a mouse grin and ran back under the cupboards with a little quick dash and then he cheered me up by peeking back out. You know there is serious poverty going round right now so if you are from a poorer community you might get a little extra help if mum finds out where to ask. In richer groups, where people are trying to pretend that they are middleclass there is still silent poverty...i call it poverty behind closed doors, the usual stuff like bills cant be paid and mortgages cant be maintained, real life worries of ending up in the shelter or anywhere else.

You can’t control the political climate but you can make ambitious plans for the future.

A smart thirteen year old could try to write a novel or a real-life story. Only babysit if you have wealthy respectable friends and you are capable with children as a lack of childcare experience can be a bit of a burden if a young baby starts crying and you have no retraining in what to do because you are responsible for the babies life and I personally think 13 years old is a bit too young.

Why not find out about a local youth group that can be a good way to make friends. Eventually if you can’t afford the basics then you or mum will have to say something to someone who can help such as at church .Finally there are thousands of people fleeing war in Syria as refugees and when these people finally get to a safer destination with their children and absolutely nothing else, well, people may start to be kinder and see that for some there isn’t a lot of choice and humanity must try to help those who are forced to go without.

If you are from a richer family you can be thankful that your crises aren’t that bad. So this message might help in either case. Whatever you do I urge you not to get caught in the trap where someone gives you something in return for sexual touching or intimacy

If you like animals there are people who will be willing to pay you for help with them. Especially with horses! I would be happy to pay someone to collect the muck out my horses's field or pull out the weeds\bad plants. This is the kind of thing that needs doing but just don't have time. I had pretty much a full time job at 13 (health and saftey would have had a field day!)looking after a yard of horses I cycled on my bike before and after school to go work there. I did a lot of heavy lifting which caused me back trouble when I was older. Make sure no one takes advantage of you and you are only doing what you are comfortable\knowledgable to do.

chigirl agony auntSocial security? Child support? Get a job as a baby sitter? Deliver news papers? That's what I did to get money when I was under 18. Got my first job at 13 delivering news papers in my neighborhood. Got up at 5am every morning, went to bed at 9pm. But baby sitting is more lucrative, if you ask me. They pay you under the table (so no tax), and you get a fairly good amount of money for very little work. And often times you get free food as well.

YouWish agony auntGreat question, and I applaud you for asking!

I made a lot of money babysitting at 13 years old. I also made money working in my mom's friend's stable tending to the horses. Rich people who love their horses pay really well!

Taking care of pets (cleaning catboxes, walking dogs, feeding them etc.) is always good. Housesitting is also really a great way to make money.

Lawnmowing is good if you have a lawn mower and weed trimmer/edger. Not everyone has one.

Here's one problem - why are you paying for your necessities? Do you have to pay for ALL of your clothes, or do you have to pay for name-brand that costs more than the basics? Also, back-to-school stuff? Like all of it? I'd talk to your guidance counselor about that. Parents are supposed to provide the basics, and if they can't afford it, schools have programs which provide for them.

I was going to ask about your dad as well. If he pays child support, where does it go? Can he assist in your necessities?

Honeypie agony auntI walked dogs and had a week-end newspaper route, from I was 12-14. At 14 I got a job at a bakery (you were technically supposed to be 15 to handle money but I still got the job).

Is your mom a single mom? And does the money you get to spend the child support from your dad?

Questing for Love agony auntWhen I was younger I made money by babysitting and mowing lawn for my neighbors. You can try asking them if they want help with anything. Also, maybe ask your parents if they can give you an allowance for helping out around the house or something and put in extra effort. Maybe your mom will give in if she sees you're serious about helping out.
