A female United Kingdom age 30-35, anonymous writes:

my boyfriend and I tend to have unprotected sex... ehm, last month we did, he didnt come, we stilled vowed not to do it again. but over the weekend we got carried away and the same thing happend... again he didnt come but ive been following the "family planning" method, as in, i know what days im ovulating and what days to completely avoid having UPS. Im told one can only get pregnant a certain amount of days in the month.. STDs isnt an issue ecause i know for a fact we're both clean, he has a lot more experience than me, being 6 years older.. and him being my first to have a sexual relationship with (technically). so yeah, they are my questions.. feedback would be cool.

deejuliet agony auntYes, there are only certain days in the month that intercource can get you can get pregnant. Several days before you ovulate till several days after ovulation. This can be as long as a weeks time. The problem is, you are never sure exactly when you ovulate! If your periods are rugular than you can figure out when you are most likely to ovulate, but there are no guarentees. You may ovulate early or late this month. You just never know. That is why the best course of action is to use a reliable birth control method.

Wendyg agony auntSorry but hes not being very responsible either is he! You say hes 6 years older and hes got more experience and he is your first sexual partner, what care is he taking of you to ensure you dont get pregnant!?

Honey you can fall pregnant at any time of the month there is no golden rule on the safe time... Now even the withdrawal method is a falacy of not getting you pregnant, as pre cum makes you pregnant! The thing that you probably heard is that there are certain days that its easier to fall pregnant...bascially women that are trying to have a baby, would have sex on those days, the days they think according to their cycle are ovulation days, this are deemed to be days to try and conceive easier, it doesnt mean they cant get pregnant the rest of the time it just means at those other times its more likely time... No women can ever guarantee that her menstural cycle is the same one month to the other, NONE Of us... you may have had 6 months of regular periods, but the body is continuously changing and can change at any time... so just because you have always had regular periods doesnt mean that that one month your pattern is the same. There is no safe time... you need to either use condoms, the coil or get on the Pill.

I personally take the view that if you are prepared to take the risk and have sex without taking any precautions or safeguarding yourself then you are not ready. Many people just go in half empted with sex and do not take the responsibilty that goes with it. If this guy cared about you, he too would be going someway in to making sure that you are both safeguarded against pregnancy.

Its time to be responsible about this and talk this over with you GP/Doctor family planning clinic. And take a method that will protect you for those mad moments when you want sex there and then!

Take care x

I am sorry to tell you that you can get pregnant at anytime. I have been caught the same way with both mine. The day I finish my period, its true that some women can conceive easier than others however you must use some protection, even if it is your pill. I am on the pill and still got pregnant. Plse take care I do love my kids and wouldn't change a thing, but safety must come first. Plus just because he didn't come doesn't mean to say that you don't get pregnant their is pre come and trust me you can get pregnant from that so do take care. Just remember as well the after pill is not to be used as your back up. It doesn't always work. Hope this helps.

stina agony auntHello Anonymous,

"Im told one can only get pregnant a certain amount of days in the month.." Whoever told you this was seriously misinformed. You can get pregnant at anytime. Please speak with your doctor to find out about the various methods of birth control that are available: the pill, the ring, the shot, the patch, and more.

Better safe than sorry. Take care.

Suzie767 agony auntthere are around 5 days a month when you can get pregnant but dont take anything to chance. sperm can stay alive inside of you alot longer than you think so you could still fall pregnant- even if he doesnt come.

i was lax about this and now have a 5 month old baby to show for it (i love him to bits but if this isnt something you want i wouldnt take the risk)

if you dont want the hassle of condoms why dont you try the pill?
