Unexplained blood after having sex?

A female United Kingdom age 26-29, anonymous writes:

Me and my boyfriend have a long distance relationship, I say long - we live like forty minutes away on a train, but to be fair it's long enough that we only get to see each other once/twice every week at some point because of money and juggling work ect. So obviously, we miss each other and we like to have lots of sex as most couples do - we have sex numerous times when we see each other, the first time we have sex(second too sometimes) always goes fine.. But then after that I tend to bleed, not due to a period, just unexplained blood.

I was wondering if this has ever happened to anyone else and if someone has an explanation for it? I'd be thankful for any help.

My wife often does this up to a week after her period has stopped, and nearly always the first time after her period. If it continues to happen regularly go to a doctor. You can try the lube ideas first, but I cant imagine that is the problem, you would be sore as well if lack of lube was the issue.

Hi there. It might be that inside your vagina, there isn't enough lubrication.

Perhaps the vaginal wall becomes slightly chafed, and there could be a little bit of blood from that.

If you have only recently started having sex for the first time in your life, perhaps some blood is coming from torn tissue at the opening to your vagina. This tissue is called the hymen. It might slightly tear during sex. It can tear the first and second times and maybe the third time also.

Is there any pain associated with it - or any vaginal discharge (out of the normal, I mean)?

As long as there are no abnormal symptoms existing, this might be all that it is.

After you have sex, try to see where the blood is coming from or get your boyfriend to have a look. It might be coming from the hymen.

If you are too concerned though, and really can't see a reason for the slight bit of blood, go and see your GP and get their advice. At least to put your mind at rest.

Then you will know for sure.

desirewhitefire agony auntIf it's a lot of blood, like a heavy period, then you should go to the doctor. If it's just a little rusty spotting, then don't worry. I get that sometimes too, especially after lots of sex in a short amount of time.

A reader, anonymous, writes (28 October 2011):

Hi,

It could be that you are putting too much pressure on your lady parts... causing the blood. Like a small inner cut or tear.

It could also be caused from old period blood being left over and your activities causing it to come out. This does happen. As your body producess its liquids and natual lubricant, and then leaves you, it can bring with it some unwanted blood that has remained from your last period.

Hope I have helped.
