 Could you not ask him has he a girlfriend? If you know him well enough to be jumping in to his car, surely you know him well enough to ask. Or are you afraid that he might say yes?

He could EASILY have said,:"OH she doesn't like that" or " I don't have a GF so that is all good".
He didn't. Maybe he just doesn't WANT you to know.

He may know you have a crush on him. Beyond that, who knows. Don't bother speculating. Wait for something definitively. Otherwise let it go.

Ask him if he has a girlfriend. If not, would he like one. Do it the very next time you see him!

 i don't know , it could be that he has a gf but has feelings for you , it could be he has a gf but would like a bit on the side with you , he on the other hand could be shy and not want to say he has not a gf and is intrested in you , often the best talkers are the shyest when it comes to asking out a girl
