A female United Kingdom age 30-35, SOShelp writes:

The V-Card, innocent, untouched, whatever you want to call it. Virginity is something that affects women (and men!) from the ages of 13 onwards.

Being a virgin means different things to different people. For most it means not having sex before. For others it is the breaking of the hymen, a thin piece of skin that covers the entrance of the vagina. For some, though, it is means never having done anything sexual, including kissing or touching, before. It varies for different people which is why there are so many debates about the subject of virginity.

Ladies Room

Many young girls dream about losing their virginity to a loving man in a candlelit room after a romantic dinner. The sound of the sea on the shore outside. Sound familiar?

The fact is that many women don't lose their virginity like this. Many teens face peer pressure to lose their virginity. Feeling like an adult are feelings often associated with having sex but do it wrong the first time and it can be a regret of a lifetime. Some people want to keep their virginity until they are married and if this is the case then their wishes should be repsected.

Now what is virginity? As I said earlier it varies from person to person but remember that it is part of you. No one has the right to take it from you. Your barriers are the ones that you set.

Mens Room

For guys there is no physical sign of being a virgin. Stereotypical images include computer nerds but in truth many people are still virgins. However the mentality can be the same as girls if they regret what they have done.

For many guys, having sex with a virgin is confusing. Ask her what she thinks of virginity and progress from there. And in turn she should ask you.

Being a virgin is no bad thing despite what many young people feel. It doesn't make you less attractive or dumber, it doesn't change who you are in the slightest. People lie about their virginity but they're only lying to themselves in the end. It's something that has puzzled men and women alike for centuries but just remember;

You lose it for you, not for your family or friends. It is your body and yours only.

A female reader, lily13524 United States +, writes (6 June 2012):

lily13524 agony auntThis article was great and very informative. In my opinion as a 16 year old teen girl,I think that persons should lose their virginity at whatever age they feel most comfortable with. Meaning that,the individual should know the consequences of their actions and ways they can protect themselves during the act.

Persons should also be careful with whom they choose to lose their precious gift to-their virginity.Both males and females should be fully respected by the other individual. And always remember that when you say No! No means No and if the individual go against your will,Its considered rape.
