A female reader, anonymous, writes (17 December 2008):

The object of your affection is the first thing on your mind when you wake up and the last thing on your mind before you fall asleep.

You are sometimes paralyzed by the mere sight of him and your days are filled with fantasies of looking into his eyes and hearing his voice. Sometimes you build fantasies of spending eternity with him.

Your days are full of longing to see him again and you are filled with euphoria at the mere mention of his name.

These maybe extremes, but there are milder versions, I'm sure.

Of course, these are all from a woman's point of view. However, last time I checked with my husband of 10 years, he still feels the same "symptoms" towards me (haha)

Falling in love is a beautiful, enriching human experience. Even if it ends up unreciprocated, it's still worth it knowing the feeling of loving.

Hope you'll experience this and embrace the experience. More so, I hope that your loved one will reciprocate your affections.

Keep us posted!

Artistry agony auntHi there, Well, let's see if I can remember :o). When you are away from the person of your affection, you think about them all the time and want to see them. When you see them, your heart beats faster, and you are excited. Colors look brighter, it's sunny even on a cloudy day, you are in a good mood most of the time. It's a magical feeling. It is really like a natural high, the world changes for a little while until your feet get back on the ground. At one time, I was physically dizzy, and didn't realize I had fallen in love. It is a wonderful state, but it is almost like being insane to a point, because you are so into that one person, as I said until your feet come back to earth. It is euphoric. If any of these things apply, then you may be in love, you don't usually have all of them at one time, a body could not stand it. So please let me know if you have any experience at the moment, with any of the above sympthoms. Sometimes people just know without all the head in the clouds stuff, it's just a very good feeling and you are smiling most of the time. Everything is right with the world, as far as you are concerned, when you are in love. Take care and stay in touch, if you care to share. Enjoy.

My first love was complicated and hard and not healthy, so I'm not sure if these things apply to everyone, but I figured I'd put my two cents in.

I knew I was in love when I knew I would do anything to make him happy. When his happiness became more important than my own. When I was just in ecstasy when I was in his arms. I think it's something you just know in the pit of your stomach. After a breakup is when you'll know FOR SURE. But that's what I'd say.

Good luck with your lady.
