Do I have to or is it a good idea to go to a female sexual health doctor before having sex? so they can do anything they may need to do...tests...prep me for anything...etc.

Also I'm nervous I don't want to go to my boyfriend "um...i heard this ky jelly stuff will make it less painful for me"

Can you have sex without ky jelly or any lubricant, what's the difference?

A female reader, pica +, writes (17 October 2006):

Expressions like 'hurt' and 'ripping hymens' (!!) are a bit unnecessarily .. if you are fully in the mood it will be uncomfortable but nowhere near what people might suggest. Also, actually having intercourse is a totally unfamiliar sensation. If you're not aroused I'd guess it will be painful and much more sore. Relax, there's no need to barge into sex - enjoy lots of petting first and that will make intercourse easier, less painful and less of a big deal.

Your first time for penetrative sex will hurt no matter what. Lubrication doesn't really do much for ripping hymens [shudder]. However, if you're not a virgin, and how old are you anyway? Have u had sex ed yet?

And yes, you can have sex without lube. It all depends on how wet you get. Mind you, if you get too wet, it numbs the effect of a penis rubbing inside of you.

Mhmm...

u dont need to be preped to have sex for the first time. u just need to know how to protect urself. make sure he is using a condom, u can use ky to help decrease the friction, but its still going to hurt. know that once u start having sex u need to see ur doc reguarly for pap testing, to screen for hpv, and what not. but if u have questions and would like to see a sexual health doc, then go. there is nothing wrong with that
