My parents want me to go to my senior prom with a family friend's daughter. She is cute and friendly but I don't really know her that well so I am not that comfortable with the idea. If I don't take her I won't have a date and I will go to my final prom stag like every other year no matter how hard I tried to get a date.

I feel like they want to have the couple picture of us together so they have that prom picture every parent wants because they have never gotten one till now.

Should I take her and hope things go well or just tell my parents I am not that comfortable with the idea aunts.

Don't have your friends around.

Just ask them to give you a sec and dash over and do it.

Smile! You are going to have fun.

Good Luck!! xx

You seem to think you have disappointed them by not getting a date.

That is not true.

They probably just thought it would be nice for you to have someone to go with, and have you thought that she may be really upset that she couldn't get a date?

It's probably more a favour to her that they are trying to set you up.... and if you reject her then how is she going to feel.

Accept that this is probably not about you and be a gentleman and take her to the dance. It's part of growing up to get on with people you may not know very well. What do you think we do at work all day?

Good Luck!! xx

TasteofIndia agony auntHi there,

If you're available and she's a cool girl, why not go? You don't need to go as anything serious, even just as friends. Who knows, maybe you'll have a good time with her! Make a new friend or...? And if it bombs, well you went on a date with a girl and it didn't work out. Sometimes that happens. I've been on plenty bomb dates and they turn into kinda fun memories into the future. And, in the future if your parents ever try to set you up again you'll be able to say, "you did that once, remember PROM?" - and you'll have picture proof.

My prom I went with an ex boyfriend who I thought would be alright to take since my regular guy was out of town. Man, my ex was such a jerk!! Completely ruined the prom. And I've been to plenty of dances solo and it's not quite as much fun.

I think that you should go for it. If not for yourself, for a little community service to the girl you'll be taking - getting all done up for prom is a blast and I'm sure she'd have a good time going. As for your parents, I think the prom pictures are all part of the fun, but I also think that they are trying to be helpful and their heart is the right place - the girl is a nice and cute gal right?

I definitely think you should take her. Cute + friendly = a good date for the prom!

Good luck, sweetness!!
