I'm good mates with this lad and I'm started to feel things for him. Our mates have noticed that we would make a really good couple. I sort of agree but I'm scared that he doesn't feel the same way, even though my mates think he fancies me.

What should I do?

That is the exact same problem that I have! I really dont know what to do either. I mean, what if he says no!?! And If I did ask this guy out then what would all my friends think because he's ginger! AAAAAHHHH! lol! In the end my friend asked him out for me and he said yes! Dont worry, it;s worth it. lol.

Let nature take its course. Forget mates and others opinions. It will happen if it is meant to be. Tell mates to butt out for a while. give yourself time to think.

Go out for a drink, invite him to a party you are going to...as a friend of course... see what happens. Nature has a habit of sweeping us off our feet when we least expect it.

on the other hand, you could just ask him out.
