The thing is I'm terrified of getting pregnant, I've been trying to ignore the thoughts niggling away at the back of my mind because I've been on the pill since last June and I've never missed one, I take them at the same time everyday and they have about the same probability for protection as condoms don't they? I know they don't protect against STD's but I know that neither me or my boyfriend have any. It's just, if I got pregnant now, it's right up there with the worst possible things that could happen to me right now and that's why I'm scared about it. Is there anything anyone can say to let me know that I'm probably alright? Because I should be, I just can't ignore the little doubts, the little 'what ifs' at the back of my mind. People who are on the pill have sex without condoms all the time and don't get pregnant don't they? My friend has been doing it for over a year and she hasn't even had a little scare yet. Sigh. Help??? xxx

You are fortunate to have waited to have sex AFTER you got on the pill for awhile. I was 18 and had sex a month before and got pregnant. Long story (sigh...) anyway, use condoms or get a diaphragm if you want EXTRA protection. The choices are out there, use them if you want to feel safer. I use condoms/KY jelly AND the pill. Best wishes, Gena

I am also scared to death about getting pregnant as i am only 17 but i know there is a slim chance of that happening as i take the contraceptive injection. i havn't had a period since December and have had some really weired feelings in my lower abdomen, heart burn, feeling sick and terrible back ache. I think because i am scared about getting pregnant i am paranoid and maybe all the signs are in my head. What i am trying to say is that if you are scared about getting pregnant that is all you will think about i know it is hard but try to forget about it and if all still isn't well pop into your doctors and he/she maybe able to help.

I'm just going to mention again that if you go on antibiotics or any other medication, check with your doctor if it will affect the effectiveness of you contraceptive pill. I have always told my kids that they should consider using condoms until they marry, just as a precaution to protect their future fertility. There are so many diseases that can cause sterility, not to mention other problems, and it's a fairly sound policy that you won't kick yourself afterwards for, worse-case-scenario. Hey, can't help myself, I'm a Mom...

Not messy at all, this is what I used when I was spacing my children and I never had an "accident", worked really well. With you being on the pill as well I would think you would be worry free if you used both.

Hiya,
U r right there is the smallest chance that you could get pregnant but the odds are like 10 - 1, its like say there was 100 people that took the pill and all of them were having sex without using a condom about 2 of them would get pregnant, Ive been on and off the pill fo the last two years and i have never been pregnant. Stop worrying yourself hun because that when problems start to happen. Just think of it as you'll cross that bridge when you come to it. All i have to say really is dont worry because if you are taking the pill correctly then nothing should go wrong and if your still worried double up on the protection and use a condom a well.

If you don't want to use a condom you could use a spermacide foam, then you should have peace of mind.

Hi! What made me feel safe from pregnancy scares was knowing my cycle and avoiding having sexual intercourse during my ovulation period. Then when I did have sex, I would always make sure my partner used a condom!
(I talk in the past, because I don't worry any more: I'm happily married and want children whilest I'm still young!)
You can get advice on knowing your body from family planning clynics that also offer advice on the Billings Method and similar stuff. Just look up Billings Method on the net and you'll find your local agent.
God bless and good luck!

Hi
If you take the pill as it is supposed to be taken and dont miss/skip it then you should be fine. If it is really bothering you you should use condoms which provide further protection.Stop stressing if you dont have a reason to be.

Your chances of getting pregnant are 1% out of 99% and you are taking them all correct, And if you did become pregnant on the pill (WHICH IS UNLIKELY) You wouldnt harm the baby...Say you were pregnant and you took the morning after pill that is a very very high dose of the pill and you have to take that within 72 hrs to be sure it will work, Thats just a for instance hun ok not that you will be having to do that....The chances of you getting pregnant are low, to put your mind at rest hunny use a condom as well for now untill you become more secure and are feeling more comfortable, Thats double protection....TAKE CARE WITH LOVE N HUGS MANDY XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

There is an old expression about taking precautions. It is "belt and braces". Basically it means that you are best doubling up on precautions when it is really important.
Regardless of the STD issue if you take the pill AND use condoms you are making the risk of unplanned pregnancy that much smaller. Nothing is a perfect guarantee except perhaps surgery and that is a bit drastic.
From your question and post, you are clearly a mature young lady and thinking about these things in advance is a good thing. You should be aware that if you are ever on other medication there is a risk of your pill being less effective. When a doctor prescribes any other medication, make sure you ask about possible impact on the effectiveness of the particular pill you are taking because it does vary from pill to pill.
The link that Mandy7 sent you also has excellent information.
Good luck and so long as you take all possible precautions you should be okay. If at the end of the day and despite all precautions you still get pregnant then it was meant to be and you will find plenty of support from the Aunts and Uncles on this site if you need it.
All the best.

Because the pill causes periods at a certain time, does that mean if i got pregnant when i was say.. half way through a pack that i wouldn't have a period when the pack runs out? And wouldn't taking the pill once I had conceived kill the baby? xxx
