Pregnant or paranoid?

A female United States age 36-40, anonymous writes:

Over the past few days I have been worried that I may be pregnant, but I am hoping it's just my paranoia. On Monday early morning I woke up puking with a lot of diahrrea and felt like I was coming down with that stomach flu that has been going around. I felt weird all day, and then suddenly later that afternoon, I felt fine. Then just an hour ago, I woke up puking with the diahrrea again, but this time I had three bowls of ice cream before I went to bed.

Last time I had sex was on August 11th with my boyfriend before we broke up, and I have always been good about taking my pill. However, the pill has really affected my cycle, and now I only have a couple of them a year. What are the chances I am pregnant? I need reassurance. :/

Thank you all so much for taking the time to respond. I have decided not to have ice cream for quite a while, and I am not freaking out anymore about this because I didn't wake up in the middle of the night puking. Seems like it was just paranoia. Thanks again for responding. :)

Dear Poster

I agree with the previous postings; it is unlikely that you are pregnant, but for your own peace of mind, do have a pregnancy test done.

You were just ill, first time could have been an infection that you fought off by throwing up and pooing it out.

Next day was because you ate nothing but crap the night before.

Eat right and chill out.

Take a test if you want to put your mind at rest.

Good Luck!! xx

vix100 agony auntIt sounds unlikely that you are pregnant. From experience, I had a constant sick feeling (but was not actually sick and had no diarrhoea). You would also get other symptoms, ie, a metallic taste in your mouth, sore/bigger breasts being the main ones. I know it is very easy to get yourself wound up thinking that you may be pregnant, and of course, this also will delay your period. It sounds like you had a tummy bug that was, understandably aggravated by three bowls of ice cream(!), but if I were you, I'd do a shop bought pregnancy test to reassure yourself. I know it's only a month since you had sex with your boyfriend, but I think that tests nowadays are sensitive enough to pick up quite small hormonal changes. Or if you need further reassurance, visit your local family planning clinic (if you have one you can access easily) or doctor.
