Period's different after sex. What does it mean?

Tagged as: Pregnancy, Sex, Teenage<< Previous question   Next question >>
Question - (30 July 2006) 2 Answers - (Newest, 31 July 2006)
A female United Kingdom, anonymous writes:

My boyfriend and I had sex a week and a day ago, we used Durex Extra Safe (thicker and with spermicide so I've heard), we both checked throughout to see that it stayed on, and after, he took it off well away from me.

I started my period today (in the last few hours), but it looks different to usual as it looks thicker and slightly browner.

I don't know what this means, and it's worrying me.

I'm 16 by the way- could the difference be because my body's maturing?

I need some reassurance that this is normal menstruation, and that I'm not pregnant, as I've been worrying since the day after (last Sunday)

Best wishes x

uonlyliveonce agony aunti doubt that your pregnant if you have your period but get a test if your still worried.

and i dont see how you can seriously be enjoying sex if your checking the condom every five minutes then he has to take it off on the other side of the room like its some kind of millitary manouver. why not go on the pill AND use a condom then you can relax a bit more coz your less worried and if you have any accidents your safe. x x

xxxsoulsistaxxx agony auntPeriods can be different every single time until they become fully settled. Some womens never settle down! The start of your period can sometimes be a bit browner and gloopy (ewww!) at first, this is nothing to worry about. Until they're settled, you'll have light ones, heavy ones, brown ones and red ones!!

As long as you were careful while you were having sex, then everything should be fine. The fact that you're bleeding at all is a good sign and it's ery unlikely, if the condom was used correctly that you could be pregnant.

Try not to worry too much, as this can affect your period too. Good luck and chill out but keep being careful! If you're still worried in a few weeks, take a pregnancy test, just to put your mind at ease.

Good luck and get in contact if you need me.
