I normally weigh about 8stone 3/4 but as you can see I've only put on a couple of pounds, mostly over Easter when I wasn't exercising regularly. However my mother seems to be making a big deal out of it! She keeps saying stuff like 'oh i'm sorry i'm not used to having a daughter who weighs 8stone 6' and 'no darling you'll never fit into that at the moment' and finally 'i'm going to diet you in the summer, i think you need it'. Ok am I wrong to be bother by all of this? I know the hell that is anorexia, having seen two of my friends go through it and one nearly die. Is she trying to send me that way? I am now really consious of what I eat, and feel guilty for having a snack or something! It's driving me mad!!! I don't want to go and become anorexic, but if she doesn't stop going on at me then I'm afraid I'll be driven too it....help what do I do?

Your mother sounds really harsh, mine is the same but for different reasons... I think they must get a buzz out of putting our confidence down or something? Anyway try not to let her get to you too much. If you wanna lose weight then you should exercise and don't over-eat. If you feel okay with the way you are, then you shouldn't feel forced into something you don't think is necessary! Just eat healthily and drink plenty of water :) xx

I'm roughly the same as you, and lost a hell of a lot due to stress and I felt so rough from it and still do.
It can cause so many problems and I think it is wrong what she is telling you and is probably just being very protective. Talk to her, tell her how you feel about it and say that you are happy the way you are.

Ok lets see. First of all I have an obsession with diets, that is to say I dont like them. There's to many of them around everyone seems to think that its a good idea to use them. Wrong! right sweet I,m not telling you to be rude or ungrateful towards your mother for her concern. But your not over weight ok, listen to your own body not what every body elses opinion is of it, and you cetainly dont need to diet. Eat properly, dont skip any meals plenty of fruit and veg. If your worried about what you consume then just have a smaller helping at lunch or dinner. What ever you do NO DIET AND DO NOT STARVE YOURSELF. ok chuck

No one should be talking about you going on a diet unless you are really seriously overweight - and you're not. Quite apart from the risk of anorexia from needless dieting, you run a serious risk of other nasties like gallstones. I know I go on and on and on about gallstones, but if you ever have the pain of a gallstone or have seen someone writhing in agony when a gallstone is stuck where it shouldn't be, then you'll know why I'm so "obsessed" by the subject. And they are caused by the stagnation of the fluid that the body normally uses when it digests fats - so if you leave off fats or even do something as simple as missing breaksfast every day for a while then very, very quickly gallstones start to form - and once they've started they will go on growing and cause you no end of agony one day, and I do mean agony.
Right. Rant over.
Summary: don't diet unless you are badly overweight. Don't worry about a few pounds. Don't let anyone tell you when you need to diet - it's your decision.
