Tisha-1 agony auntYou can find a free or low-cost clinic by contacting http://www.plannedparenthood.org/health-center/womens-health-services-26176.htm

You shouldn't let this go, there may be an infection which could harm your fertility. If you're trying to get pregnant, I'm sure that is the LAST thing you'd want. Don't mess around with your health. Go be properly examined and diagnosed by a medical professional.

Good luck.

chigirl agony auntSorry for the second post. You should not experiment with treatment down there before consulting with your doctor. You could harm yourself.

But practical things you can do is: change your underwear often, don't wear pads when you have your period (use a tampon, although the best is to variate). Shave, or like bunnytee suggested have a wax so you can take a good look at the condition of your skin down there. Don't wear pants or jeans that are tight.

A female reader, chigirl Norway +, writes (15 June 2010):

chigirl agony auntI don't see lubricant can affect your ability to get pregnant whatsoever.

You are probably dry down there because you shower 2 times a day. And you might even smell more and more since you are basically cleaning away all bacteria you have down there, bacteria which you NEED. Without it you are at a high risk of getting infections. Infections which can smell even worse.

Get yourself to the doctor, no excuses. You can even call a clinic if you are too embarrassed, then you won't have to look the doctor in the eyes. I do not think a doctor will need to inspect you, they might be able to know what it is based on the symptoms. In either case, if you go to a doctor you can always refuse to strip naked.

Now, if you can't go to a doctor because you can't afford it there are free clinics around the world, I am sure there is at least one free clinic you can call in the US and ask them this question.

In the worst case this can be an STD which can cause you to be infertile if you don't treat it soon enough. You said you wanted to become pregnant. The best for you and your future child is to go see your doctor.

person12345 agony auntI know you say you can't just go to a doctor, but you may have an infection. If you're uninsured or can't afford the doctor planned parenthood or a feminist clinic can help you and may be able to do so for free.

BunnyTee agony auntI read a startling article on this subject in a magazine not too long ago. I have developed my own theory on this subject. I believe it's due to unexfoliated, dead skin. Literally, a build up of dead tissue. I suspect that a bath pouf, a loofah sponge or one of those scrubby-type bath pads is the answer to much of this. Also, a full Brazil wax seems to have the same effect: fresh skin is revealed since several layers of skin cells are removed during the wax-removal process. Just my own theory, nothing scientific.

A female reader, Auntie E United States +, writes (15 June 2010):

Auntie E agony auntIf you bathe on a regular basis and you do you should never ever have a bad odor coming from your vagina. You have something going on, could be an infection, could be an imbalance. Why can't you go to a doctor? If you are trying to get pregnant you really should see a doctor first about this. And to answer your other questions about lubricant - that has nothing to do with getting pregnant. A water soluble lubricant is always best. Never use a petroleum product.

A female reader, juno* Canada +, writes (15 June 2010):

you might have an infection, if i were you i would go see a doctor, that way he or she could prescribe something for you.. You shouldnt be embarresed about it and it is better to see a doctor rather then try different products because , they may or may not work so dont waist you money or time on them unless the doctor prescribes them to you because there is a higher chance of them helping then.
