A male United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

I have a big problem at. My stomach makes noises all the time in class. The cause of it is because I get so nervous and worry about it growling or something and then it does it. When the classroom gets quiet I start getting nervous and worrying and it does it then. It's so embarrassing because others hear it. I get so nervous out my mind that I can't even concentrate on my work. I stay nervous the whole day about i think it because of the kinda people in my classes and don't want to be embarrassed or talked about so I get nervous and worry. I didn't use to worry about this until one time in class my stomach made a noise and this boy said something and joked about it. When I'm not worrying about my stomach it doesn't do anything. What can I do before I cause myself a panic attack. I try to tell myself don't worry about it other peoples do it but it doesn't help because Im nervous and worrying about it especially when the classroom is very quiet when everyone can hear it. How can i stop myself from worrying about it and concentrate it's hard to think straight or think of something els when I'm in a quiet classroom worrying about my stomach making nervous. What can I do

AngelofLove agony auntIt could be trapped wind but you can try to change your diet.

Talk to your doctor about it and find what foods tend to affect these symptoms most.

A hungry stomach can do this also.

In addition to changing your diet, ensure you have a substancial breakfast in the morning and drink plenty of water.

Drinking plently of water may mean that you go to the toilet often but it helps to calm down the noises.

Take care

Fatherly Advice agony auntOh the agony of being a teenager! The body growing and changing. The pressure to conform and to be attractive. There are no little things.

Let me tell you a secret. No one is listening to your stomach. Do you know why? Because, they are too worried that everyone is looking at their new pimple. Or wondering if their deodorant is working. Or if their breath is O K. Or if anyone saw them driving the minivan to school.

I wouldn't mess with your diet unless you have signs other than a nervous stomach. Really the best way to overcome nerves is to realize the obvious fact that all the other people in class are more like you than you think. Or as the guys used to say when I was your age.

" yeah, she's beautiful and seems so perfect, but sometimes when she is all alone, she farts."

It sounds like gas. The best thing is to not eat or consume anything that may cause gas. Ask your parents if there's anything that you can do to get rid of the gas. Or if you prefer, how about seeking your school nurse or even your family doctor and ask if there's something you can take or do to prevent that. I used to have the same thing when I was in school. I hated it and kept the gas in. My stomach hurt terribly, but as I grew older, I embraced it and realized that it was caused by the stuff I ate. For me, it's drinking milk in the morning. So go and find out and don't be afraid to ask mom or your doctor.

Talk to your classmates about it. Seriously most won't have noticed and the ones that do don't care. I'd say even the guy who made the joke wasn't laughing at you but trying to make you see the funny side.

In fact try and see the funny side to this. The only reason it happens is because you worry about it and if you didn't worry about it it wouldn't. That's kind of funny. Funny because it's only a tummy grumble and not a bug deal.

Just focus on the lecturer/teacher and not yourself. Focus on the class or if the lecture is boring, pick out a hot girl/guy in your class and mentally undress her/him and imagine sex with her/him, you know the usual.
