My girlfriend's a day late for her period... what should I be doing, or not doing?

A male United States age 18-21, anonymous writes:

My gf is a day late for her period. I know that's not much but she's on the pill and said that it's always right on time with that. She missed her pill one day but following that we had sex with a condom for a while and have only recently had sex without a condom again. She's really worried about it. The way I look at it, I'm a little nervous but trying not to get too worried before I know for sure there's something to worry about.

We have discussed briefly what would happen if she were pregnant and both agree she can't have a baby now. The problem is that she said she doesn't know how she'd be able to face me after that if it was the case and that she doesn't know how she'd feel about sex from that point on.

Is there anything I should be doing, or not doing? If she is pregnant and has trouble facing me when all is said and done how can I begin to fix things? I love her so much and I don't want to lose her.

blackroses2989 agony auntWell right now you should not be freaking out, but you should wait a week, if there is still no period, you wil have ot wait at least 14 days from the day of her missed period to take a preg test. However, I prefer to go to the doctor and have a blood test, they are simple and accurate, its the best way to know for sure. But for now relax honey.

Missing the pill for one day usually does not make any difference, as you would normally take two the following day. The fact that she is only a day late is no grounds for your worrying...this can happen, being on the pill does usually work like clockwork, but many things including worry can make your period late.

I would give it at least 2 weeks and I think you will find that your worries were unfounded..

She can get a pregnancy test from a local chemist and if she does find that she is pregnant, then she should go to the doctors and he will give her a pill that would start her period, she will only bleed as normal.

I doubt if her feelings will indeed change towards you, these things happen to thousands of people everyday and are very quickly forgotten.

If she needs to go to the doctors, then some flowers after she has finished her period would go down a treat and show just how much you love and think of her.
