reader, anonymous, writes (7 July 2009): Well, the chance is actually increased to about 1 in 4... BUT that is only if there is already some form of genetic complication in your family... So if there aren't any diseases, like down syndrome, or Tay sacchs, or mental retardation, the chances probably arent that high. its still a risk though

reader, anonymous, writes (5 July 2009): I assume you mean first cousin, but anyway the chances of having a baby with genetic defects is only slightly raised, not really a sginificant amount to my knowledge its the same risk factor as a woman aged 35 or over getting pregnant. The risk of the baby having a minor defect like asthma or poor vision etc. those things are a little higher. Serious birth defects are rare.
What is the legal situation with that kind of relationship in mexico? I would advise you speak with your doctor but if that kind of relationship is illegal you might get reported.
