A female United States age 36-40, anonymous writes:

Has anyone ever had a boyfriend in jail before? My boyfriend has been in jail since Sept. 30th,and it has been hard. He is in jail for a parole violation. His lawyer thinks that he will get out on the 25th of this month, but there is a possibility that he could go to prison for nine months.I have been very depressed without him since he went to jail.I just need someone to talk to. I feel so lonely.

A female reader, aunt honesty Ireland +, writes (21 October 2016):

aunt honesty agony auntHave you no friends or family? I can understand that you miss him, but is there a need to be lonely? Why not take up new hobbies, spend more time with friends. Have an active social life. Remember he is the one in prison not you, enjoy your life.

A reader, anonymous, writes (21 October 2016):

Are you asking for permission to leave him? Guys with legal problems are the worst choices women can ever make.

When he does time, you go into isolation. Nobody really wants to be associated with you, because of him. So make some friends; and decide if this is the kind of life you want.

My advice is pretty cold and to the point on this one.

Dump him and go work on your self-esteem. Straighten out your life. What the hell are you doing with a guy like that?

Just finding someone who can relate to it isn't doing you any good. It's giving you an excuse to rationalize why you're throwing your life away waiting for someone who has decided to give-up on his life, and drag you under with him.
