I would suggest letting it be done. It is a piece of skin after all. Thin in most cases but tearing a skin that resists could A: really really hurt B: bleed badly and C: hurt.
A doctor could also check there are no other reasons it hurts.
If you do it yourself you might come to associate sex with pain and become more and more afraid of it.
Just go to the doctor as you planned.
