A female United Kingdom age 30-35, anonymous writes:

Hello!

There's a man that i serve every day at work, I really like him, and he seems to like me too- we just smile and sort of gaze at each other, even when we're not saying anything, and he does seem shy and quite nervous but tries to initiate conversation etc.

I'm aware that I come across as very shy, reserved and I am Very polite- which he seems to like.

But I accidentally swore today in front of him- I don't usually swear (albeit a mild swear) and find it very unattractive.

My question is- he hasn't been in for a day, do you think he's turned off by me?? I mean more generally can a man stop liking someone from one thing they say, if it's not ladylike, or whatever.

Maybe I'm thinking too much about this- I'm just curious and confused.

Thanks! Sorry to people with bigger problems lol :/

Denizen agony auntThere's swearing and then there's swearing. For some people swearing is like punctuation. The F' word can crop up in a sentence like a comma or an exclamation mark.

The judicious use of Anglo Saxon can add a bit of colour to colloquial delivery. However there is a time and a place.

If your friend freaked out because you let slip a bit of bad language then I think you would be better getting to know someone more normal.

Sageoldguy1465 agony auntIf she (you) said something like, "Damn, that f**k*ng guy is the cheapest skinflint I've ever known. He never tips me more than 3%, even tho' I'm all over him giving him good service..." Then maybe something you said was responsible. HOWEVER... if this IS what you said.... because he IS a skinflint..... then there really was no future there, was there????

Good luck...

P.S. I like it when my G/F talks dirty to me!!!....

Ivyblue agony auntIf he is, think yourself lucky because one little swear word is bugger all. Could you imagine having a bf with such hight standards. Too hard I would think. Maybe he's on leave or sick.

Honeypie agony auntI don't think he has stayed away from your work-place because you used one wee curse word.

While it may have come across as a TAD unprofessional we ALL let words slip here and there. It happens. You are only human. Not some Saint.
