Lately ive been feeling very self concious about my breasts. Im 17 and im a G cup.. but im small in comparison with my breasts, i wear size 10 clothes. I dont have any bras that fit and feel really uncomfortable. My question is.. can breasts be too big? i no i shouldn't worry about what other people think but ive read loads of things on the internet with men saying if theres more than their hand can hold they are too big :( can i have some mens opinions? Because i think they look unnatural and out of proportion...

You sound perfect! But if you really want to get a breast reduction please wait until you are at least in your late 20's. You will still be growing and if you decide to have children your breasts may grow back. My wife has a niece that got her breast done when she was 18 and now she wishes she would've waited. There are too many unknowns when you are that young. Besides her breasts were perfect, I mean perfect. but she thought they were too big. (EE Cups). Don't get crazy and start lopping things off just yet. Wait. Please.

You sound beautifully proportioned. Big breasts are extremely attractive and G cup is a fantastic size to be. Be happy with what you've got.

I don't think that any girl should be unhappy because her breasts are too big. The saying should be "the bigger the better." A girl with big breasts should be proud of them and emphasize them by the way she dresses. She will get a lot of male attention and make all the boys who see her extremely happy. Be generous by spreading happiness.

Banoffee agony auntHello

Well, I think it's important to understand what you mean when you ask whether breasts can be TOO big. Too big for what? Or whom? For you? For your lover? If your lover loves you, the size of your breasts is neither here nor there. Whatever your lover finds so special about you allows him or, potentially, her to overlook and love what he or she would otherwise consider to be a flaw.

Many men love big breasts. Many men love small breasts. Many men love men! You asked for men's personal preferences on breast size and I'm a man so here's my preference - I love big breasts and a G cup sounds fantastic! (I think we can get decent G cup bras these days - have you tried Marks and Sparks?) That isn't the whole picture though. In particular, a woman with large breasts and a small but not skinny back makes my pulse race! I'm not really into just BIG, so there is an important distinction for me. I'm a portrait artist and I tend to be stimulated by what I see rather than how I interact with it physically, so the amount of breast in relation to my hand isn't as important to me as overall appearance. I hope that gives you sufficient detail! Ahem.

Some of my lovers have had large breasts but I've also been in love with women who have had very small breasts. It just goes to show, you never know what you're going to get, as Forrest Gump might say!

It sounds like you're concerned your breasts currently look unnatural. If you have a surgical reduction, needless to say they will be unnatural. Most rational people looking at your breasts know that natural breasts can be anything from really small to really big, so they have no reason to assume yours aren't natural. Also, any surgical procedure carries a certain amount of risk and the outcome won't be as easy to change as the results of natural methods (if there are any) should you change your mind in future.

If you want smaller breasts, perhaps changing your diet or exercise regime might have an effect. Anyway, the important thing is to be proud of what you have, as the last respondent said, and love yourself for doing what you need to create the body image you want.

A female reader, anonymous, writes (31 May 2007):

I'm in a similar situation as yourself. I have an f/g cup and am only 5ft 1". I'm a size 12 on the bottom and have terrible trouble getting tops to fit, sometimes I have to wear a size 18/20 to accommodate my chest. So dresses are out of the question, cos they just swing around my hips like a tent.I do suffer with backache and have actually weighed my breasts which are in fact 2 and 1/2 stone of my body weight which is 10 and a half stone . I'm terrified of having a reduction as I'm rather squeamish anyway but sometimes for extra support I do wear 2 bras. Also I always wear a bra to sleep as otherwise they are flopping all around the place and uncomfortable. The thing is you are still very young and there's a possibility that as you get older they may get smaller which can happen especially if you breast feed. I would wait at least another few years before you consider a reduction, are you on the pill because this can sometimes make them swell a little? Funny thing is my ex boyfriends have always commented what a great pair I've got, so be proud of them and don't do anything drastic, not at the moment anyway. I'm forty by the way.

hugs2muchgal agony auntIf you are not comfortable in your own skin, like DV1 said, Breast Reduction is always an option. Because you seem to be too thin for your chest, your breasts could eventually give you real back problems. Breats are not neccesarily too big, but for you, a smaller size seems like the perfect fit. Explain the issue to your parents and I'm sure they will support whatever you decide.

Good luck.

DV1 agony auntA lot of my friends have gone through breast reduction surgeries. If you're unhappy with them, talk to your parents about looking at this option.
