Hi,
You can drop that weight – but do not crash diet – all that will do is lose a bit of excess weight for the short term. Then what will happen is your body will get weak from lack of food. And you will lose your willpower to stay on the diet – then you will go back onto eating with renewed vigour and your body will crave everything you eat and go into fat storage mode – so every calorie you eat will stay on your body.
There are a few angles you can take to this. Cutting down on calorie intake – and doing exercise.
Personally I think you need to do both – but ease yourself into it – and gradually change bit by bit – into a new lifestyle that you can sustain in the long term. Eventually you will get used to your new ways naturally and your body will not go into shock – throwing you back to your old ways.
On the exercise front – yes jogging is way more effective than walking – but don’t expect to jog straight away. Try walking twice a week for 30 mins each.
But even when walking – try to brisk walk – try to push yourself a little bit – if you are just walking up the road without any pace – then you aren’t putting your body under any pressure and you aren’t burning enough calories. So walk fast.
Do it for 2 weeks. If you feel up to it – try it for 3 times a week then. See how long you can keep that up. You might get a tired week when you really cant do it. That’s fine. Don’t despair. It’s not over. Just try again the following week with 2 walks again. Then see if you can do 3 the following week. The point I want to make is to try to do something that you can sustain. If you are able to do the walking for two months say – then maybe you can throw a 5 min jog in there somewhere. See how that hurts you. Then next week throw two 5 min jogs in there. Just see what you can handle. Try to up it when you feel you have the energy in you. And if you are eating properly you will find your body WILL have that extra adrenalin to push it.
Regarding Calorie intake, I have never heard of anyone who joined weight watchers who didn’t lose weight – so if you are serious about it – then you need to consider it as an option. Even if only for a while to teach you about what foods are really bad vs good. Personally I wouldn’t go as far as them (counting how many points are in eating an apple etc). But then again – if you write down what you are eating each week – you will find that nearly 40 % of your overeating takes place in just 4 bad occasions – i.e. after dinner – sitting down and eating 14 custard creams with another glass of milk. So it’s usually just a few bad occasions that is doing all the damage. If you can squeeze these down to one big treat at the weekend (e.g. a takeaway on a Friday) then you are on the right road.
You might also consider some kind of appetite suppressant – if you are finding yourself gorging on sweets and all the wrong type of foods – then the right suppressant can help keep you away from that and steer you towards having a bigger healthy breakfast and dinner.
p.s. that is a lot of weight you want to lose so don’t be surprised if the effects aren’t happening as soon as you want. The point is you have to tell yourself is that if you are walking as much as you can – and you are eating less junk food – then you are getting healthier – no matter what the scales say. But depending on how hard at it you go – you will see results quicker or slower,
Best of luck.

Walk when ever you can for as far as you want. It's all about using up calories and getting your heart going.
Get off the bus a stop early, take the stairs instead of the lift, offer to walk a neighbours dog to the park, there are many many ways you can move around more.
Cut down on anything with sugar in it and fill yourself up with stuff like porriage and cereals.
Congratulations on wanting to improve your health. You can avoid heart disease and diabetes which causes blindness and makes your feet fall off.
Good Luck!! xx

walking is Such good exercise. A twenty minute walk is around a mile in distance so 30mins - hour a day would be great for you. Try to eat healthy too but dont diet just cut out the crap food like crisps and choc! If you diet you wont stick to it !
