Lonely and hard of hearing

Question - (24 December 2010) 3 Answers - (Newest, 24 December 2010)
A female United States age 36-40, *igerlilly396 writes:

ok I'll be 23 in a few days and I've never had a boyfriend. I go to work and then come home. I'm not sure about going to bars or clubs because I'm half deaf and it's really hard to hear in loud places like that. I've also had the problem of guys not believing me, about my disability. I've been called a liar and some have wondered if I'm 'slow'. I'm tired of being lonely but I'm not sure what to do.

A male reader, slimfish New Zealand +, writes (24 December 2010):

slimfish agony auntdeafness is one of the least understood disabilities, as there are no signs of it.

i have been deaf for most of my adult life, following a misfire when i was in the army.

i have a lapel badge now and when i tell people i show them my badge, it is a hand cupped to an ear.

it shows those unbelievers that you really are deaf.

it has also been useful when talking to women as they often come up to me and ask what the badge is lol.

First of all (((hugs))) to you. Those men are losers. Can you try to make friends with others who have hearing difficulty also who will be more understanding?
