writes:what was going on with him? when i was around him, my former boyfriend would have three days to one or two weeks of being relatively indestructably 'happy' and energetic, and then very soon after he would lose much energy or become very angry, distrusting, and self-destructive. it always was predictable. if he was in an exceptionally good mood and optimistic, i knew that i could expect to deal with hell in the next couple of days. it made it difficult to enjoy the good times (after i learned the pattern), knowing what would follow afterwards. he knew there was an imbalance, but he always got so caught up in his feelings and didn't detach from it when the high or low periods were setting in. he told me long ago (as a teenager), he had been put on bi-polar meds, but had stopped taking them. he never said he was truly bi-polar. he would also ask me to be there for him for the rest of his life, but then push me away (usually in a dramatic, angry fashion)... it was almost impossible to actually have a functioning relationship with him because of this behavior...isn't that more borderline? is it possible to have both of these disorders at once? i'm still his friend, and i wish i could have more insight into this because i want to at least be there for him with as much understanding as i can possibly have.
