A female United States age 36-40, anonymous writes:

Dear Cupid,

I've been with my boyfriend for about 5.5 years, and I'm fairly sure an engagement is on the horizon (I've overheard him talking to his friends about it) but it probably won't be for several months at least. I still have my own apartment but I spend 99 percent of my time at his house. (so basically you could say we live together,)

I have just graduated with a Bachelor's in my chosen field, and for the past 6 years I've been working at a local daycare. With a full time job I've been finding it very difficult to go to interviews, network, volunteer, and establish myself in the field. I'm exhausted and overwhelmed. Also I would like to go for Masters.

Here is my dilemma. My boyfriend has asked if I would like to leave my job for six months to a year and pursue whatever I'd like to do to prepare for my career-including finding a job in the path I've chosen-he would pay my expenses in the meantime. (That would be no issue for him, he runs a successful business) Problem is we're not married yet and he hasn't proposed yet...I do trust him completely though and it wouldn't be hard for me to find another job later if I needed to (daycare jobs aplenty around here) and I would like to do it, but I am not sure it is the best thing to do. Advice?

aunt honesty agony auntI can understand your worry but as you said yourself he is capable off financing you and there are plenty of other jobs if it goes wrong.

Look you have been together a long time, surely you don't need a ring on your finger to feel secure? Talk to him about your worries. I am sure it won't feel great having to rely on him for money so maybe talk to him about a set amount he can give you weekly so that technically it is your money and finish your masters.

Garbo agony auntWhy don't you tell him that you'll take him up on the promise as soon as you see the ring on your finger. See what he says.
