A female United States age 36-40, anonymous writes:

To the point.....I've know my mechanic for 5 years and I make an effort to have my car inspected and maintenance when he's there. We've met up twice outside of his job at a bookstore nothing serious. I consider him a honest reputable mechanic. We haven't gone out in maybe 2 years. Also whenever texts are sent I'm almost always the initiator. Background info complete.

Just last week I was told by my male friend who also happens to be my mechanic that I will need my wheel bearings replaced at a cost of $588 dollars. After I just spent 484 on front entire brake system and had an inspection but this wasn't told to me. Then to tell me I'll need new tires soon (is it bc of the tire special they're advertising).

Newayz we made an appointment the male mechanic friend n myself to have my wheel bearings repaired Thursday 2days before my birthday. My mechanic friend then told me I took Saturday off so we can relax on ur birthday, maybe catch a movie. I said great.

Due to family extenuating situations I could not keep my Thursday appointment nor did I call to cancel. I didn't think canceling matter bc I wasn't given an appointment time, was told I had an early appointment but no time was given. So Saturday comes n its my birthday. No call or text from my mechanic friend. N I went by his job to pay on my account n he wasn't there, off as he said maybe.

My question is was that a sales tactic to say I took off for ur birthday n we can hang out n go to the movies? Or was it rude of me to cancel the appointment without notifying any staff of my cancellation?

My question is why before I get the fire stone card my inspections are all good on my car but the next month I get the card I get told I have all these repairs that need done? Why wasn't I informed about the wheel bearings when the front brakes were placed on my car? Surely it was obvious excess movement or noise she the inspection was complete.

Were they trying to make me use the card bc I would have to pay them back or are these legitimate repair issues?

So_Very_Confused agony auntthe only way to know if they are legititmate issues is to get a second opinion from someone else.

I know that sometimes for us car issues come up right after we've had other work done. It's the nature of cars I fear.

I've had work done and a week later something else needed to be done.

It's never good practice to stand anyone up. If they were expecting you at the shop and you were a no show no call, that's wrong on your part. You should have called to let them know you were not coming.
