Is it normal for my hips to hurt for days after having sex ?

A female United Kingdom age 36-40, anonymous writes:

whenver i have sex w/ my boyfriend, it really hurts my hips- they ache for days afterward. is this normal? is there anything i can do? it doesn't matter what position- every position does it. i've tried stretching, too (not like warm-up for sex ... that would be weird ... just generally trying to stretch out my hips).

does this happen to other women? if i ignore it and just let it keep hurting (taking ibuprofen for the pain when it's bad), am i risking anything serious in the long term?

hey- thanks for the info. i do feel rather better hearing you've dealt with it for 20+ yrs and haven't had any serious consequences. i've only been having sex for a few months, so i wasn't sure.

A female reader, AmazingJourney59 United States +, writes (2 April 2007):

The same thing happens to me. Taking a hot shower as soon as possible after having sex seems to help a lot.

I've had the same problem throughout my entire marriage.

(27 years).

It's very uncomfortable, but haven't noticed any other problems resulting from it.

Since I know someone else is experiencing this, I will do some research. I will let you know if I find anything that may be helpful.
