I've told him that already to which he has said that he's fine with it. What can this possibly mean? Is he in love with me to a great extent or trying to make me feel better or is he into twisted kind of sex? Is it normal for men to have sex with their gfs during their periods?Thanks in advance.

Or, he might be fine with sex during a period.
Either way, it means he's fine with it. Just enjoy your time together, and what happens happens. Nothing's wrong either way.

 It's extremely common! My husband has zero problem with it, though I prefer not to! However, I don't know if anyone else agrees with me or not, but orgasm during menstruation feels different than otherwise. It's actually therapeutic for me in terms of bloated, cramped, period sort of stuff.
It's been many years, and I've never been able to shake the self-conscious feeling about it! But my husband couldn't care less!

Personally, I'd feel gross if I was intimate with a guy while I was on my period, but some don't care.
If you don't want to, don't. If you do, you can still get pregnant on your period, so always use condoms or don't have sex!

It is a little messier but who cares? You don't really notice when you are in the heat of passion. And TBH, a little messy isn't so bad!

 well there is that normal word again. What may be normal here may not be normal there, and what may be normal for one person may be out of bounds for another.
But, to answer your question in a most helpful, way, it certainly is possible, and it is much more common than you think. Everything cleans up with water, just protect the bedding.
