writes:My friend is too embarrassed to try and get help, but he is in love with his first cousin and everyone is confusing him on whether it's legal or not ?Also, I've tried helping him find out the legal age for a relationship between first cousins and it's not very clear, can anyone help ?Thanks

We got married when we were 18 and 19 and have been married for 28 years now, yes there were some in the family who didn't agree with us getting married but so what, you can't help who you fall in love with, and we're still in love now. The biggest problem was having children, we lost our baby through a genetic illness even though we had genetic counselling beforehand, we decided not have anymore, but I have met first cousins who have had healthy children, anyway there are other ways to pursue a family if that is important, donor eggs/sperm, adoption etc. we did try the donor eggs, then sperm option but unfortunately for us it didn't work, so it has been just the two of us and we are closer for everything that we have been through together. I feel very lucky to have had a happy marriage, and would I marry him again, you bet.

 Relationships between first cousins are legal and the age of consent is 16. However I would advise your friend to think of the consequences of being with a cousin because if the relationship doesn't last he's still going to be in the same family as her and have to see her regularly.

 Yes, it's legal to have a relationship with a cousin.
And I think it should be the same age of consent as with the rest of the people in your country (16) but I wouldn't swear on it.
